Rachel Kolisi has shared an emotional message on Instagram about the pain she’s feeling following her divorce from Springbok captain Siya Kolisi. On Valentine’s Day, she revealed how the day reopened old wounds, leaving her heartbroken once more.
The couple, who had been married for eight years, announced their separation in October 2024, sending shockwaves across South Africa. In her heartfelt post, Rachel described the difficult journey of parenting while dealing with the emotional aftermath of their split. She wrote, “We do love every day, anyway. But this Valentine’s Day, I made a brave decision, and it broke my heart all over again. Parenting when the world feels like it’s crumbling around you is a different kind of challenge one, I hope I’ll never have to experience at this level again.”
Rachel’s honesty resonated with many, and her post received an outpouring of support from fans and friends, for which she expressed deep gratitude. She shared, “Never been more grateful for the very few who showed up to support and lean in this week, especially. One day at a time felt too big this week, so I just did one hour at a time and it kinda helped. I made it to Saturday!”
The Kolisis’ love story began in 2012, and they married in 2016. Together, they have two children, Nicholas (10) and Keziah (7). Despite their separation, the couple has remained committed to co-parenting and ensuring that their children feel loved and supported. Siya, who now resides in Durban, KZN, continues his rugby career with the Sharks.
In their joint statement announcing the separation, the couple reassured their followers that they would continue to work together for the sake of their kids. “This decision comes from a place of love, respect, and understanding that this is the best path forward for both of us,” they said. “While our relationship as a couple is changing, we remain great friends and committed partners in raising our children with the same love and care they’ve always known.”
