After an arduous two-year legal battle, former Real Housewives of Johannesburg (RHOJ) star, singer, and businesswoman Christall Kay has triumphantly regained possession of her Kyalami mansion. The victory follows a dispute with businesswoman Kholeka Bubu, a saga that had left Kay in a precarious financial position earlier this year.
The journey began in 2017 when Kay listed her lavish property on Property24 for R18.5 million. However, circumstances took an unexpected turn when Bubu, after putting down a R5 million deposit, moved into the mansion. Although Bubu was granted an extension to pay the remaining R3 million. Kay alleges that the reality TV star failed to fulfill the agreed-upon terms.
In response, Kay issued a notice of cancellation, citing non-payment and revealing that the agreement was cash-based, not through a bond. Despite Bubu’s attempt to challenge the cancellation in the High Court, the legal proceedings ruled in Kay’s favor.
Eager to reclaim her residence, Kay faced another setback when Bubu lodged an appeal, delaying the return to her property. During this time, Kay found herself burdened with the financial strain of paying rent for an alternate residence. In addition to covering bond costs, rates, and levies for the property occupied by Bubu.
This week, Kay joyfully announced the conclusion of her legal ordeal on Instagram. Expressing her delight at being “Back in the Saddle again!!!” and embracing the joys of country living. In an interview with Zimoja, she shared her relief at finally returning home after a prolonged and emotionally taxing battle.
However, the victory came at a cost, with Kay revealing that the legal process incurred a hefty bill of R4 million. Despite the financial toll, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to decide the mansion’s future condition.
Now, as Kay settles back into her home, she looks forward to enjoying a well-deserved festive season. Marking the end of a challenging chapter in her life. Her resilience and determination serve as a testament to overcoming adversity. In the pursuit of justice and the reclamation of one’s rightful place.
