Pinky Gumede, the sister of late kwaito star Mandla ‘Mampintsha’ Maphumulo, is demanding payment for her appearance on the upcoming reality show Wena Wodumo, which is set to air on DStv’s Moja Love channel. Gumede has made it clear that she will take legal action against the channel if her payment is not received.
According to Sunday World, the reality show, produced by Thomas Gumede and Lungile Radu’s company Parental Advisory Production, will premiere on 29 March on Moja Love’s channel 157. However, Pinky and her family claim they have not been compensated for their involvement in the show.
“Hell will break loose if this show is aired without my payment,” Pinky warned.
She recalled that the family had been initially approached by Thomas to film the reality show uThando Lodumo while Mampintsha and their mother were still alive. Despite their initial reluctance, Thomas convinced them that they would be paid for their participation, and they eventually agreed. However, Pinky claims that during the filming of two seasons, they were poorly compensated and mistreated. “We had to fight for our money,” she alleged.
After Mampintsha’s passing, Thomas approached the Gumede family once again to film a third season. This time, Pinky said they refused to participate, wanting to avoid further exploitation amidst the ongoing family drama. However, she claims Thomas persisted, apologising and urging them to consider Mampintsha’s child’s future. He promised that things would be handled properly, so the family reluctantly agreed to participate, despite never signing any formal contracts.
“When I asked about the contracts, Thomas told me to relax and leave everything in his hands,” Pinky recalled.
After Mampintsha’s funeral, however, she says she never heard from Thomas or Lungile again. Her calls went unanswered, and she felt abandoned by the producers. Despite sending multiple messages, Pinky claims they ignored her, leaving her feeling exploited once again.
The family’s frustration grew when Pinky saw a trailer for Wena Wodumo on social media last Thursday morning. “I was shocked and angry mainly because my late mother and myself were never paid for this show,” she said. “It’s clear they wanted to make a quick buck out of our misery.”
Pinky has vowed to pursue legal action if she does not receive the payment she believes she is owed. “But I will not stop demanding money,” she said. “I also want my mother’s money. If they fail to pay me, I’ll sue them.”
