Reality TV star and influencer Tebogo Mekgwe, better known as Pinky Girl, has finally addressed the tension between her and her famous cousin, Bonang Matheba. Once a beloved cousin duo on Being Bonang, the two have clearly drifted apart—and now Pinky is sharing her side of the story.
In a recent sit-down with Troy Malenge on Reason TV, Pinky Girl reflected on what really happened between her and Bonang. While fans have speculated about a major fallout, she insists it wasn’t that dramatic.
“There’s nothing that happened. I went through a lot of emotions in 2023,” she shared. “As people, we grow and take on different responsibilities… whether it’s family, relationships, or friendships. You don’t have to judge or force things.”
According to The South African, Bonang had previously claimed that Pinky was dropped from her team for not being vaccinated. But Pinky Girl now says the tension was deeper than that and had more to do with miscommunication and growing apart.
She explained: “Families have differences. I was brought up in my own family, and my cousin was brought up in hers. Yes, we’re cousins, even like sisters, but our backgrounds are different.”
Pinky also opened up about their childhood bond, sharing fond memories of holidays spent together.
“Bonang and I met through visiting during school holidays, spending time together while growing up, and visiting my grandmother in Rustenberg… I’d go to her dad’s in Mafikeng during the holidays. That’s how we built our relationship as cousins.”
But adulthood changed things. “Now we’ve grown up—she does her own thing, and I do mine. I have my own parents, and she has hers. So cousins are cousins—it’s not like we do everything together.”
In a moment of raw honesty, Pinky added: “There’s no such thing as family—especially, you see it when you’re growing up. It’s not easy. People get busy, and you must remember your responsibility. We’ve got something different… whatever. And I don’t know.”
She also spoke about the personal loss she’s endured recently, revealing that she lost her uncle, grandmother, and father, which made 2023 a deeply emotional and transformative year.
As for the visa drama Bonang mentioned on X (formerly Twitter), Pinky Girl clarified: “The problem with the visa was that there was no communication earlier that we would apply for a visa… There was no communication that we will visa, so prepare a visa in the next 1–2 weeks.”
She added that better planning and communication would have helped and also revealed that the trip wasn’t sponsored—which added to the confusion.
