Penny Ntuli Apologises After Viral Freeway Dance Sparks Safety Concerns

Radio presenter Penny Ntuli has spoken out after a video of her dancing on the side of a busy freeway went viral and caused a major stir online.

The Jozi FM presenter made headlines after a clip circulated on social media showing her and a friend bending over, twerking, and dancing for oncoming traffic. While some people found it entertaining, others raised serious safety concerns.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) was quick to condemn her actions, saying it was not only reckless but also illegal. In a statement, the RTMC said:

“The RTMC is astonished by this behaviour on our national roads. Pedestrians under the NRTA are prohibited on the freeways and it’s illegal. Content creators should not risk their lives for ‘likes’.”

Following the backlash, Penny addressed the viral video, insisting that her actions were not intended to cause harm.

“We were dancing out of fun. What I did wasn’t meant to hurt anyone. I know some things happen because it’s Penny Ntuli, if it was someone else who isn’t Penny Ntuli this wouldn’t even be up for discussion. I saw comments of people saying I can’t handle alcohol, but I don’t drink alcohol. Everything I do, I do with both my eyes and a sober mind,” she explained.

She went on to stress that she did not want anyone to copy her actions or turn them into a challenge.

“Please don’t be on the freeway doing what I did because it’s not safe. I saw comments from people who were genuinely concerned about safety, and I understand where they were coming from. The N3 is known for accidents and I realised that I put my life in danger. So yes, the place I did that wasn’t safe, and I apologise to those who were concerned,” Penny said.

She also extended her apology to truck drivers who use the freeway, acknowledging that her actions could have distracted them and possibly led to accidents.

While she stood by the fact that her dance was just for fun, Penny admitted that in hindsight, the location was inappropriate and dangerous. She urged her supporters not to repeat her mistake, making it clear that safety should always come first.
