Media personality Pearl Thusi is facing criticism from internet users after reportedly failing to cover the school fees of a child, despite promising to help.

The drama began last July when an X (formerly Twitter) user, Siviwe Matroos, reached out on the platform, seeking assistance to pay her son’s school fees. Pearl Thusi responded to the post, asking for the school details, and even took the extra step of reaching out to DJ Zinhle to help meet the fees halfway.

However, it was recently revealed that neither Pearl nor Zinhle followed through on their promise. Siviwe, in a follow-up post, shared that she could not send her children to school due to an outstanding balance and confirmed that the people who promised to help her did not keep their word.

In a conversation sparked by another X user’s inquiry, Siviwe confirmed that Pearl last responded to her in September, asking, “Didn’t the money come in?” This response came after Siviwe had reached out multiple times. “The last time Pearl responded to my DM was on September 19 with ‘Didn’t the money come in?’” she shared.

However, when the promised support didn’t materialise, internet users voiced their disappointment. @Nampree expressed frustration, saying, “Hayi hayi, I know it’s her money but what Pearl Thusi did is CRUEL!!”

Others shared their own painful experiences. @1414interlude wrote, “This is so sad. I was also the kid that had to beg for fees after my dad died. It’s already so dehumanizing, and when people promise to help and they don’t, there is no recourse. It’s degrading to beg people to keep their promises.”

Meanwhile, @BaradiDardi criticised Pearl’s actions, saying, “It’s one thing failing to fulfill a promise to help someone pay their child’s fees after publicly offering to help, BUT to string them along, disregard the urgency & pretend you’ve paid just to silence them? Worse, this person didn’t even ask for your help… wow!”
