South African music icon Oskido is set to host his inaugural lifestyle festival, “Big Day Out,” celebrating the pioneers of South African music. The event, scheduled for November 30, will pay homage to the legends who shaped the vibrant music scene of the past three decades.
Speaking to IOL, the multi-award-winning producer described the festival as a tribute to the golden era of kwaito and the evolution of South African house music. “The lifestyle festival is a spectacular celebration of South Africa’s vibrant music scene over the past three decades, rekindling the golden era of kwaito by showcasing performances by a stellar line-up of legendary artists and tracking the journey of South African House music from then to now,” Oskido explained.
While the festival takes place in November, Oskido emphasised that the celebration goes beyond just music—it’s about honouring South Africa’s rich heritage and cultures year-round. “’Big Day Out’ is not just about the music, it’s about celebrating our rich culture, our colourful history, and the joy that comes with it – music and food,” he shared. “Together with my team, we are excited to bring together some of the greatest talents in the country for a day of pure nostalgia and vibrant energy.”
Set against the lively backdrop of Johannesburg in the heart of Linksfield, the event will welcome at least 5,000 guests and feature a unique blend of music, fashion, and food. While the full line-up of artists is yet to be revealed, festival-goers can expect performances from their favourite kwaito stars and Amapiano artists who are making waves on the international music stage.
With excitement building, “Big Day Out” promises to be a grand celebration of South African music, culture, and history.
