South African actress and filmmaker Nqobile Nunu Khumalo recently graced the prestigious 2024 Septimius Awards in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, where she was celebrated for her outstanding contributions to the film industry. Nominated for Best African Actress for her compelling role as ‘Lucy Khambule’ in the Showmax Original series Red Ink,  Khumalo’s talent and versatility were on full display at the global event.

The Septimius Awards, known for spotlighting new independent talent and visionary films, attracts a stellar lineup of attendees, including Emmy, BAFTA, and Oscar winners. With a focus on storytelling in various forms—from drama to documentaries—the awards have become a beacon for innovation in filmmaking.

Khumalo took to Instagram to share her excitement and gratitude for the nomination, writing, “Septimius Awards 2024 celebrating the courage & creativity of filmmakers from all over the world. Thank you for the nomination for Best African Actress (Red Ink) & (Beauty For Ashes) Best Short Documentary.” The actress-director also posted snippet videos showcasing her work in Red Ink and her directorial debut, Beauty For Ashes, which was nominated for Best Short Documentary.

Khumalo’s dual nominations highlight her range both in front of and behind the camera.
