Nomzamo Mbatha, the renowned human rights activist, television personality, and actress, is giving back to the community in a big way. Through her Nomzamo Lighthouse Foundation, she launched her annual “Back to School” outreach program, benefiting 700 students across five provinces in South Africa. The initiative provides school shoes, uniforms, and other essentials to help students start the school year with confidence.

Mbatha shared the details of her donation on social media, writing: “700 students. 5 provinces. 700 school shoes and uniforms. Today was Day One @nomzamo_lighthouse for our annual BACK to SCHOOL outreach program in Durban, KZN starting with 2 schools – Bhekisisa High School and Khalipha Special School.”

In her heartfelt post, Mbatha reflected on the struggles students face at the beginning of the year. “Every beginning of the year gathers anxiety for learners, for different reasons, as they are faced with so many realities,” she explained. These realities include the difficult decisions parents must make about how to allocate limited funds for groceries, lunch money, uniforms, and transport.

Mbatha’s foundation aims to ease this burden by providing essentials that help restore dignity and boost the self-esteem of students. “We think of ways to restore dignity, ease the load on parents, and bring some joy in the process,” she added.

The actress also expressed her gratitude for the support of teachers and partners. “A massive thank you to the teachers who send submissions for their learners and schools. I’m a product of teachers who looked out for me, so they have a very special place in my heart,” she wrote.

Special thanks were also given to the partners who made the program possible, including the Hollywood Foundation , Cotton On Foundation, and supporters of her “Empowering HER 2024” initiative, which contributed proceeds to the cause.

With a commitment to uplifting and empowering young South Africans, Mbatha’s foundation continues to make a positive impact on the lives of students across the country.
