Nompilo Maphumulo Bows Out Of SABC 1’s Uzalo. The actress know for her stellar and impeccable acting skills is leaving the award-winning telenovela.
Taking to her Instagram page, Maphumulo penned a farewell message to Uzalo’s production team, further expressing how grateful she is to have portrayed the character known as Nosipho Xulu.
“Forget yourself and just deliver. As I bow today after 8 and a half years on @uzalo_sabc1| would like to thank all of vou guvs for the support vou have given me and the love you have shown for me and my craft. It’s been quite a journey, a beautiful one,” she wrote to her Instagram.
“Trended a number of times, cried, laughed but most of all enjoyed and embraced playing Nosipho. We are all going to miss her especially me but rest assured Nompilo is not done yet. In fact it’s only the beginning,” Maphumulo concluded.
The prolific actress had been on Uzalo since its inception in February of 2015. She is also one of the actors viewers got to see develop right in front of their eyes with her acting abilities, having been a sangoma and in relationships with Qhabanaga, Thulani, Njeza, Zweli and Mondi.
Speaking to ‘Sunday Sun’ about her character as a sangoma, Maphumulo revealed that she found adjusting to that character a bit of a hassle. Further adding that she even had to go as far as researching to enlighten herself to become a versatile actor.
“The storyline is challenging. But I believe an actor should be ready for any role given to them. I visited sangomas, traditional healers and elders and surfed the internet as part of my research. I had to consider that I’d be watched by more than 10 million viewers. So, I also had to make sure viewers don’t regret supporting Uzalo,” she told ‘Sunday Sun’.
Back in 2022, news broke out that the actress had allegedly been fired from the telenovela together with Menzi Biyela who played the character of Pastor Gwala, her fiancé. It is alleged the reason for her firing and non-renewal of contract for season 9 was because she had been pregnant, to which Maphumulo rubbished the claims saying, “Uzalo released me because it was time for me to leave.”
“If I’m not mistaken, we are less than five actors who started when Uzalo debuted on TV screens in 2015. So everyone has their time and it was a wonderful experience,” she added.
