In an interview with OK Mzansi Magazine, Nkonzo speaks more about his debut single.
1. Your debut single “Akvumi” carries such emotional weight. What inspired the story behind it?
Ubizo represents my spiritual calling. I’ve realized everyone has a purpose, and mine is to help people through music. I’m embracing this calling to change lives and heal others.
2. You explore human vulnerability and emotional honesty in Akvumi. Why was it important for you to share that truth through music?
“Akvumi” is a personal prayer. I wrote it during a tough time, speaking to God about my struggles and hoping for a better future. It’s about staying strong and finding light in darkness.
3. The song blends traditional Maskandi influences with contemporary Afrosoul. How do you balance your African heritage with modern sounds?
Sharing truth through music is healing. I want people to relate, heal, and connect with their emotions through my story. If I can inspire hope, that’s what matters. Balancing heritage and modern sounds is a collaboration. Working with Dr. Sipho Sithole, we blended traditional Maskandi with contemporary Afrosoul, creating something unique and powerful.
