Nkateko ‘Kay’ Mahange, a star from The Ultimatum: South Africa, has taken a courageous step in his battle for the well-being of his one-year-old son, Qhawe David Mahange. In a heartfelt statement released to the public, Mahange revealed the disturbing reasons behind his decision to seek full custody of his child, citing harmful behavior from his ex-partner, Khanya Nqolase, which he claims has created an unsafe environment for their son.
Mahange and Nqolase, who appeared together on the reality show The Ultimatum: South Africa, where couples are given the chance to either solidify their relationships or break them off, have since gone their separate ways. However, their relationship has not been without significant strain and conflict, as Mahange’s public statement reveals.
In his emotional press release, Mahange expressed that his love for his son and his deep commitment to providing a safe, nurturing home for him is the driving force behind his legal actions. He wrote, “In honor of your first birthday, Qhawe David Mahange, I will share our truth. This statement comes from the depths of my heart, born out of unconditional love, pain, perseverance, and an unshakable faith in God. It is not meant to condemn or accuse but to share my truth as I seek to rebuild my life and create a safe, loving home for my son, Qhawe.”
From the moment he learned he was going to be a father, Mahange says his sole focus has been to protect and provide for his child. However, the path to parenthood has been far from easy. Despite the complexities of his relationship with Nqolase, Mahange tried to stand by her during her pregnancy, hoping to create a better future for his unborn child. But, according to Mahange, their relationship became increasingly toxic.
One of the most alarming allegations Mahange makes is that Nqolase reportedly consumed dangerous substances while pregnant. He writes, “After I had witnessed her consume very dangerous substances voluntarily while pregnant, while we were separated, I knew I had to stick around to make sure that the child remained safe during pregnancy and after delivery.”
However, as time went on, Mahange says his interactions with Nqolase became more volatile and emotionally damaging. “I faced repeated episodes of physical and emotional ill-treatment, including incidents that endangered Qhawe’s safety. There were moments when Khanya displayed erratic and violent behavior that I could not ignore,” he writes.
The situation worsened after Qhawe’s birth. Mahange recalls how Nqolase’s temper became more unpredictable and violent, even in their child’s presence. One of the most harrowing incidents occurred when Nqolase allegedly stabbed Mahange during an argument while he was holding their son in his arms.
“Khanya stabbed me during an argument while I had him in my arms. The attack left me physically wounded but my primary concern was for Qhawe, who was in the house at the time. This act of violence was a stark reminder that her behavior was spiraling out of control, and it was no longer safe for my son to remain in such an environment,” Mahange writes.
Mahange also describes how Nqolase’s violent actions were not limited to him. She reportedly destroyed property, lashed out at friends and family, and rejected any attempts at reconciliation. “Her unpredictable and unstable behavior created a volatile household, leaving me no choice but to seek custody of Qhawe for his well-being,” he explains.
In his statement, Mahange makes it clear that his decision to pursue full custody is not born out of malice but out of a deep desire to protect his son. He has gathered evidence, including medical records, photographs, and testimonies, to present to the court to support his case. “I have gathered evidence of these incidents…not out of malice, but to demonstrate to the court that I am capable and prepared to provide for Qhawe with the stability and love he deserves,” Mahange writes.
