The rape charges against Nelson Mandela’s grandson, Mbuso Mandela were earlier this week withdrawn. The state was reportedly awaiting psychiatric assessment reports and therefore could not proceed with the trial.
Mbuso was last year accused of raping a 15 year old girl at a restaurant in Greenside on August 7 last year and was released on R7000 bail after spending a week in jail.
The victim stated in an affidavit that Mbuso forcefully kissed her, put his hands in her pants, and raped her. In response Mbuso stated in his own affidavit that the sex was consensual and he had no idea she was a minor because the pub where they met did not allow entry to people under the age of 21.
“I was forced to spend the festive season all by myself and I cannot pursue any employment because of the proverbial sword hanging over my head”, said the 24 year old.
His brother Ndaba Mandela, aunt Makaziwe Mandela-Amuah, and cousin Ndileka Mandela were present in court to show their support.
