Nadia Nakai Swears Off Dating in the Music Industry After Past Heartbreak

Zimbabwean-South African rapper and television personality Nadia Nakai has opened up about her love life in a recent interview with Freshmen Magazine, revealing that she has no plans to date anyone in the music industry again.

Reflecting on her past relationship with the late South African rapper AKA, whose real name was Kiernan “Supamega” Forbes, Nadia Nakai shared the emotional toll of being in the public eye while grieving. “I would not date another rapper. I would not date anybody in the industry ever again. Purely of the fact that I’ve always been like, everyone makes fun of me like, oh, Nadia you always like ‘TikTok girlfriend and you always want to do TikToks with your boyfriend.’ I never want to do that again. I wanna have a very private relationship. I don’t want it to be public like if he had to die that experience was terrible for me. I didn’t like having to explain my pain to strangers at the airport. So, no, I don’t want to explain nonsense to people on social media. I’ll never date a rapper. I’ll never date anybody that’s in the public eye.”

The rapper explained that her decision is rooted in wanting to protect her personal life and maintain privacy. Nadia Nakai’s relationship with AKA lasted for about a year, beginning in late 2022 until his tragic assassination in February 2023, which left a deep impact on her.

Despite being single, Nadia Nakai said she is still open to enjoying life and spending time with people in a casual way. “No, I’m not currently dating. I mean I’m always down for a good time. If I want to go out for lunch with somebody I will. I want to get flown out to a different country I will. But committing myself to anybody right now, I don’t think so, no,” she said.

Nadia Nakai’s candid words highlight the challenges of being in a relationship under the constant scrutiny of the public and social media. She emphasized that her focus now is on living life freely and enjoying experiences without the pressures of a public romance.
