Following the release of their powerful new Afrohouse anthem, Noba Yintoni, NAAK and Bongi Mvuyana are reminding listeners that resilience, faith and determination can carry you through even the hardest moments. Featuring respected producer Bun Xapa, the song’s title translates to “No Matter What” and serves as an emotional statement about perseverance and staying true to one’s purpose.

The track blends soaring vocals, soulful harmonies and textured Afrohouse production to create an uplifting sound that speaks directly to the heart. It is both deeply emotional and perfectly suited for the dance floor, offering comfort, strength and movement all at once.

NAAK, formerly known as NaakMusiQ, is a South African producer, vocalist, performer and creative visionary whose career has evolved across genres and eras. From dominating local airwaves with early chart-toppers to reinventing himself on a global scale, he has continued to prove his versatility and staying power. OK Mzansi Magazine Interview Questions:

1. “Noba Yintoni” translates to “No Matter What” and carries a strong message of resilience. What inspired this theme, and how does it reflect your personal journey?

This theme was born from my own season of transition and realignment. When you decide to walk a new path, especially one as personal as this shift into Afrohouse, you face internal and external doubts. “Noba Yintoni” is my anthem to myself and to anyone choosing to persevere. It reflects the core of my journey: no matter what challenges come, no matter how long the process takes, staying true to your vision is non-negotiable. It’s the soundtrack to my own comeback.

2. You’ve entered a bold new chapter within Afrohouse. How does this single represent your artistic evolution as NAAK?

“Noba Yintoni” is the declaration of that evolution. It’s the first full expression of my sound as NAAK—where soulful melody meets grounded, spiritual rhythm. It represents clarity. Before, I was exploring, now I am asserting. This track is intentional in its production, vocal delivery, and emotional depth. It’s not just a song, it’s my arrival into the Afrohouse space on my own terms.

3. The lyric “sizo phumelela” speaks to unwavering belief in success. Why was it important for you to centre hope and determination in this song?

In a world that can feel heavy, I believe music must lift. “Sizo phumelela” is more than a lyric, it’s an affirmation. I wanted to create a mantra for the listener, something to hold onto. Centering hope was crucial because my own journey required that same unwavering belief. This song is meant to be a source of light, a reminder that collective faith and determination are powerful forces. We will succeed, no matter what.

4. How did the collaboration with Bongi Mvuyana and Bun Xapa come together, and what did each artist bring to the track?

This collaboration was a beautiful alignment of spirits. Bun Xapa and I share a similar vision for the future of Afrohouse, and his production sensibility brought a raw, textured depth to the foundation. Bongi Mvuyana is a vocal goddess, she brought a layer of soulful richness and timeless emotion that elevated the track’s heart. Together, we created something where every element speaks: Bun’s rhythm, Bongi’s spirit, and my narrative. It was less like a feature and more like a meeting of voices telling the same story.

5. Afrohouse often balances deep emotion with dance-floor energy. How did you approach achieving that balance on “Noba Yintoni”?

The balance is everything. I started with the emotional core, the message and the melody. The vocals and lyrics carry the weight and the hope. Then, we built the production around that heart. The percussion and bassline were crafted not just to make you move, but to make you feel the movement. The groove becomes the physical expression of the resilience we’re singing about. It’s designed for both the solitary listener and the full dancefloor.

6. You’ve worked with legends like Black Coffee, DJ Tira, and Bucie. How have those experiences influenced your current sound and creative direction?

Working with those icons was my university. From Black Coffee, I learned the power of minimalism and spiritual depth in production. DJ Tira showed me the energy of the crowd and the art of the anthem. Bucie embodies vocal emotion that transcends genre. Those experiences taught me professionalism and vision, but now I’m applying those lessons to my own sonic palette. They helped me understand the industry, but this new sound is me applying that knowledge to tell my own story.

7. What role does collaboration play in pushing Afrohouse forward, both locally and internationally?

Collaboration is the driver of evolution. Locally, it’s about blending our unique South African voices and rhythms to keep the sound fresh and rooted. Internationally, it’s about cultural exchange. Introducing our authentic sound to global producers and vocalists, creating fusions that respect the origin while expanding its reach. Every true collaboration is a step forward for the genre, proving its versatility and emotional universality.

8. With Afrohouse gaining global momentum, how do you see South African artists shaping the genre’s future worldwide?

We are the curators and the custodians. As the genre spreads, our role is to protect its soul, the feel, the languages, the stories that birthed it. South African artists will shape its future by remaining authentic, not diluting our sound for foreign appeal, but rather teaching the world how to feel it our way. We set the standard. The global scene should follow our lead, not the other way around.

9. How does “Noba Yintoni” fit into your broader plans and musical vision for 2026?

“Noba Yintoni” is the cornerstone. It sets the tone for everything that follows. 2026 is about building a body of work that solidifies NAAK’s place in Afrohouse. This single is the first chapter of a bigger story. Expect more music, intentional collaborations, and live experiences that bring this vision to life. It’s the foundation of my most authentic year yet.

10. What message would you like listeners to take away from this song, especially those facing challenges or adversity?

I want them to take away a feeling of unshakable inner strength. When you hear “Noba Yintoni,” I want you to feel seen, affirmed, and powered up. My message is simple: Your journey is valid, your struggles are real, but so is your capacity to overcome. Press play, let the rhythm move through you, and remember—no matter what, keep going. We will succeed.
