The curtain is set to fall on SABC’s popular drama series Muvhango once again, with the current season set to end in July. This comes after a period of uncertainty last year when the show went off air for over two weeks in July, leaving both viewers and cast members frustrated as they awaited news on its future. After days of uncertainty, the show was saved at the last minute, and new actors, including seasoned actress Leleti Khumalo, were brought on board to help revitalise the series.

Muvhango, created and produced by media personality Duma Ndlovu, has been a mainstay on South African television for years. Ndlovu is also behind other popular soapies like My Brother’s Keeper, Umkhokha: The Curse (Mzansi Magic), and Sibongile & The Dlaminis (Mzansi Wethu).

However, according to TshisaLIVE, recent rumors on social media have confirmed that Muvhango will not be renewed beyond the current season. Despite efforts to give the show a fresh start by introducing new actors and a revamped format, it appears that the end is near.

SABC’s head of communications, Mmoni Ngubane, confirmed the news, saying: “The SABC can confirm that only one season of Muvhango is currently contracted and that the contract is set to end on July 31. The SABC cannot comment on the future of the programme at this stage.”

UPDATE:

The SABC has responded to my initial query about my sourced reporting that Muvhango will not be renewed and they say this …

"The SABC can confirm that only one season of Muvhango is currently contracted and that the current contract is set to end on 31 July 2025. The… https://t.co/QWDzYFqc8f
