In a statement issued on his behalf on Friday, Devs’ team confirmed the sad news. “It is with deep sadness that we confirm the passing of Danya Devs’ beloved mother on Monday, 16 February 2026. While in Durban for scheduled performances, Danya received a call on Sunday night to urgently return home. He remained by her side, and she peacefully passed away the following morning.”

The news came during a busy time in the musician’s career. Devs had been in Durban for performances when he received the call that changed everything. He immediately travelled home to be with his family and was able to spend his mother’s final moments with her.

The statement further explained how deeply important she was in his life. “In the days since, Danya has stepped back from social media and public activity out of respect for his family and to process this profound loss. His mother was the centre of his life – his foundation, his motivation, and his greatest source of strength. Over the years, Danya worked tirelessly to support her, doing everything he could to assist with her medical needs and ensure she was cared for.”

She was laid to rest on 21 February 2026 in an emotional farewell surrounded by loved ones.

Devs is grateful that his mother witnessed part of his recent success, especially the momentum of the Bayede era. His album, Bayede, was released on 26 January this year and marks an important chapter in his music journey.

In honour of her memory, the musician has decided to continue with his scheduled shows. “In honour of her, Danya has decided that scheduled shows and public activities will resume next week. He looks forward to returning to the stage and continuing the Bayede and Umuthi journey with the strength and purpose she instilled in him.”

His album tour is set to begin on 28 February in Cape Town and will conclude on 27 March in Port Edward.
