Multi-talented artist Musa Keys, known for blending Amapiano beats with soulful melodies, has solidified his place as one of the most exciting voices in the music industry. His latest album, Rirandzu, takes his artistry to new heights, showcasing a deeply personal and culturally rich project that celebrates love, identity, and his XiTsonga heritage. Speaking to Drum at Soltopia in Mea Culpa this past weekend, Musa opened up about the inspiration behind his album and his hopes for the future.

“Rirandzu means love,” Musa explains, his passion evident as he discusses the album. Describing the project as deeply personal, he reflects on how it intertwines his cultural roots with his experiences as a self-proclaimed “lover boy” navigating the complexities of modern relationships. “The inspiration was tapping into my culture and telling my story… Even though falling in love is tricky right now,” he says with a laugh.

Since its release, Rirandzu has received an overwhelmingly positive response. Fans have particularly connected with the track Vafana va Mali, which Musa believes truly embodies the album’s infectious energy. “I think people are liking it, especially Vafana va Mali,” he says.

A standout feature of the album is Musa’s decision to primarily sing in XiTsonga, an intentional move to innovate and bring more representation to the genre. “It’s something different. We don’t have an album as good as this,” he confidently states. Musa also teases his fans with the promise of more XiTsonga music, hinting that the best is yet to come.

Looking ahead to 2024, Musa shares that every day feels like a highlight for him. “I get inspired every day. I stay motivated every day,” he says, demonstrating his unwavering drive. As for his aspirations in 2025, he hopes for peace—and maybe even finding love.
