Today, Sandton’s Maslow Hotel was abuzz with excitement as an event was held in honour of Miss South Africa 2024, Mia le Roux, as she prepares to represent the nation on the global stage at the 73rd Miss Universe pageant. The prestigious competition is set to take place on 16 November 2024 in Mexico City, and Mia le Roux is in the running to bring home the crown.
During her speech at the farewell event, Mia spoke passionately about her motivation for competing, saying, “The reason why I’m doing this is not just for me but for everyone else who also feels that frustration of banging on doors and it’s not opening, and they know how capable and intelligent they are.” Her words resonated with the room, highlighting her determination to inspire others who face similar challenges.
A highlight of the evening was the special gift Mia received from Brand South Africa—a giant South African flag. The symbolic gesture represents the nation’s trust in her to “carry the country in a way that is honourable, beautiful, and shows the world who the real South Africa is.”
The event was attended by notable personalities, including former Miss Supranational Lalela Mswane, who came to show her support, and popular radio and TV presenter Zanele Potelwa, who served as the MC for the evening. Television host Kuhle Adams was also present to celebrate Mia’s journey.
As Mia heads to the Miss Universe stage, South Africa stands firmly behind her, confident that she will represent the country with grace and strength.
