The highly anticipated Metro FM Music Awards (MMAs) will return to Mbombela, Mpumalanga, for its 2025 edition, but this may be the last time the ceremony is held in the province. Metro FM officially launched the event this week, announcing the exciting details for the upcoming awards season, according to TshisaLIVE.
The awards ceremony is set to take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Mbombela Stadium, with the nominees set to be revealed on Thursday, February 27, 2025. The announcement event was hosted by popular radio and TV personality Luthando Shosha, also known as Loot Love, at the Angel View Hotel in Graskop, Mpumalanga. The launch brought together key stakeholders, clients, and advertisers to kick off the much-awaited awards season.
The Metro FM Music Awards have long been recognised as one of South Africa’s premier music events, celebrating the country’s top artists and their achievements. The station has partnered once again with the Mpumalanga provincial government and the Motsepe Foundation to bring the awards to life in 2025.
In a heartfelt speech, Leah Mabuza, the MEC for the Department of Culture, Sport, and Recreation in Mpumalanga, expressed her gratitude to Metro FM, saying, “We wish to heartily thank Metro FM for providing us with an opportunity to showcase our province as a competitive destination of choice, but also a gateway to the Sadc economies. This year might be the last time we host the award ceremony, but of course we’ve got the room to engage further our current relationship.”
Nada Wotshela, the SABC Group Executive for Radio, also praised the significance of the MMAs. She said, “The Metro FM Music Awards have a significant effect on the South African music industry and the country at large. Last year’s event was a huge success, and we are excited to build on that momentum this year. The awards provide a platform for artists to showcase their talent and for music lovers to celebrate the best in South African music.”
