South Africa’s globally acclaimed fashion brand, Maxhosa Africa, is returning to Paris Fashion Week this September, reclaiming the spotlight as the only African designer on the prestigious calendar. Known for its vibrant, pattern-rich designs, Maxhosa has previously stunned audiences at major international events like New York Fashion Week. This season, all eyes are on their latest offering—the “Maxhonassaince” collection.
According to IOL, inspired by renaissance art and the rebirth of Africa, the collection promises to deliver opulent jewel tones, intricate florals, and crowns, all adorned with the bold, geometric patterns that have become synonymous with Maxhosa’s unique style. “We cannot forget patterns, as they are the DNA of MaXhosa, which is what our ancestors left for us,” explained Laduma Ngxokolo, the brand’s chief creative director.
Ngxokolo is on a mission to redefine African luxury, a concept he believes has long been misrepresented by outside perspectives. “For this collection, we wanted to define what luxury means to us—beyond the colonial representation of the continent,” he stated. He emphasised that for Maxhosa Africa, true luxury lies not just in craftsmanship and elegance but in creating pieces that blend modernity with Africa’s rich cultural heritage.
Maxhosa Africa also remains committed to empowering the next generation of designers and technicians through sustainable production, reinforcing their vision of a brand rooted in both innovation and tradition.
Fashion enthusiasts can expect a groundbreaking showcase when Maxhosa unveils their “Maxhonassaince” collection at Paris Fashion Week on September 27—a moment that will undoubtedly celebrate African creativity on the global stage.
