KZN singing sensation Mawhoo, whose real name is Thandeka Nontobeko Ngema, has parted ways with her sister, Noxolo Ngema, who had been managing her career. The sisters, once very close, are no longer on speaking terms following a fallout that led to Noxolo’s dismissal from her managerial role in Mawhoo’s company.
A close friend shared details of the situation with ZiMoja, revealing that the two sisters had been living together in an apartment in northern Johannesburg while Mawhoo awaited the completion of her new home. “They were doing just fine and getting along well. Mawhoo is all about empowering family and getting them to work in her businesses,” the friend said. However, tensions arose, and after a fight, Mawhoo kicked Noxolo out of the apartment. “They are not on speaking terms… long family drama,” the friend added.
According to the source, Noxolo, who was in charge of bookings and brand-related matters, became complacent in her role, missing gigs and failing to manage bookings that Mawhoo was keen to accept. The situation was further complicated by Noxolo’s own music career. “Noxolo is also a singer and last year featured in a song with her sister, Visca, and DJ Maphorisa titled Impilo,” the friend said. “That also comes into play when your manager also wants to be a star and then there is competition.”
The friend explained that Noxolo sometimes acted more like an artist than a manager, which led to conflicts. “She behaved more like a star when her duty was to manage the brand, handle bookings, schedules, contracts, and all the administration of making Mawhoo a brand.”
Mawhoo confirmed the split, but chose not to go into detail about the fallout. “Unfortunately, we are no longer working together, but we are family,” she said. Noxolo, however, was unavailable for comment.
