The big Euphonik debate…
The big question on everyone’s tongue is; should someone that was previously accused of assault and women abuse be involved in a campaign against women abuse?
A lot of people are against Marie Claire’s latest campaign where they selected a few celebrities to step up by wearing heels to stand up against gender based abuse and assault, one of the celebrities in question is 5FM DJ Euphonik.
As we all remember in 2012 TV personality Bonang Matheba opened a case of assault against the DJ but the charges were later on dropped which means that he does not have a criminal background/record that labels him as an abuser.
Marie Claire took to Instagram to share a video of Euphonik expressing why he decided to take part in the campaign and well Bonang found Euphonik’s participation to be ironic and humorous. (Read that story here.)
Marie Claire South Africa editor Aspasia Karras sees no fault in selecting Euphonik to be a part of their ‘In Her Shoes’ campaign.
Speaking to Time LIVE she says that all the men that are involved in the campaign were chosen strategically and that Euphonik was a “perfect candidate”.
She adds that the magazine is well aware of the DJ’s ‘abuse history’ and that is one of the reason why they felt that he is the perfect candidate.
“Of course I knew what Euphonik’s history was; it was precisely because he had this shadow of domestic abuse [hanging over him] that I felt he was the perfect candidate to embody the campaign. Here is a man who has been accused of this thing and he’s standing up and saying that he does not endorse it.”
What’s your argument on the whole issue?
