Multi-award-winning artist Makhadzi has received two exciting nominations at the upcoming 2025 Trace Awards, set to take place in Zanzibar on 26 February 2025. The Queen of Venda, whose real name is Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, has been nominated for Best Female Artist and Best Dancer of the Year, alongside amapiano star and dancer Kamo Mphela.
In an interview with Daily Sun, Makhadzi shared her excitement and gratitude for the nominations, describing the recognition as a reflection of her hard work, dedication, and the unwavering support of her fans and team. “It feels absolutely amazing to be acknowledged in such significant categories,” she said. “It reflects not only my hard work and dedication but also the support from my fans and team.”
Makhadzi, 28, is known for her electrifying performances that combine cultural traditions with modern dance influences. She explained that her choreography is inspired by a blend of South Africa’s traditional dance styles, personal experiences, and the vibrant energy around her. “I always aim to create performances that evoke emotions and celebrate joy,” she said. “Collaborating with talented dancers and choreographers also sparks new ideas, allowing me to push boundaries and keep my performances fresh and captivating.”
As a role model to many young people, Makhadzi expressed how rewarding it is to know her music and dance inspire others. “I strive to convey messages of empowerment, resilience, and self-expression through my art,” she added. “It’s important to me that young people know that they can chase their dreams and achieve them, no matter the challenges they face.”
Having won a BET Award for Best New International Act in 2024, Makhadzi sees the Trace Award nominations as another stepping stone in her mission to amplify African culture globally. “If I win, I want to create more opportunities for collaboration with other artists, especially emerging talents,” she said. “Additionally, I aim to engage in mentorship programs to support young dancers and musicians.”
