Screen star Lunathi Mampofu was a standout at the 16th annual Feather Awards, held last night at 1 Fox Street in Johannesburg, where she took home two coveted titles: Best Styled Individual and Hot Chick of the Year. Known for her bold, edgy style, Mampofu beat out rapper Maglera Doe Boy and media personality Nomalanga Shozi in the Best Styled category, while also surpassing global pop star Tyla and Ntokozo Mhlongo for Hot Chick of the Year.
Ahead of her wins, Mampofu shared her feelings with Sowetan Live: “The journey that has brought me to this moment is filled with hard work, resilience, and a commitment to celebrating and uplifting the community,” she said. “Being recognised at such a prestigious event is both humbling and empowering. It reminds me of the importance of using my voice and platform to inspire positive change.”
Mampofu’s unique fashion, which spans from daring, tailored looks to eye-catching outfits, has made her a red-carpet favourite. “If I won both Best Styled and Hot Chick of the Year at the Feathers Awards, I’d feel incredibly honored and grateful,” she said. “Awards like these mean a great deal to me as they’re a powerful acknowledgment of authenticity, individuality, and the impact of self-expression.”
The Feather Awards, hosted by Dineo Langa and Khaya Dladla, celebrated champions of the LGBTQIA+ community. Other honourees included Zoe Modiga as Musician of the Year, Thebe Magugu as Fashion Designer of the Year, and Tshedi Mholo and Bongani Nchang as Drama Queen of the Year.
In addition, veteran fashion stylist Felipe Mazibuko received the Simon Nkoli Award for his impact within the LGBTQIA+ community. Past recipients include influential names like David Tlale and Thandiswa Mazwai.
For Mampofu, the night was a powerful celebration. “Tonight is not just about personal achievements—it’s a celebration of our shared experiences and the progress we’ve made together,” she said, capturing the spirit of the evening with both pride and gratitude.
