Showmax is embracing the spirit of Valentine’s Day with its latest romantic drama, Not My Type, which explores the complexities of love, faith, and the search for a “happily ever after.” The film is set to premiere on February 14, 2025, just in time for the month of love.
The movie features actress Lorraine Moropa, who is making a highly anticipated return to the screen. Known for her roles in Guilt, Hope, and Ikani, Lorraine brings a fresh, powerful performance as Letsatsi, a woman who has spent years designing wedding dresses while waiting for the “perfect man” that she believes God has planned for her.
Lorraine’s personal life adds an extra layer of relatability to the character—she recently got engaged to amapiano star Tyler ICU in January. In a recent interview, Lorraine shared how the character of Letsatsi resonated with her, especially in her own journey of waiting for God’s perfect timing.
“I relate to my character’s wait for the perfect man,” Lorraine said. “I’ve been through moments where I had to wait on God to move, and that patience is something I’ve come to understand as a key part of faith.”
Not My Type delves into themes of love, faith, and self-discovery, asking big questions about the nature of relationships and the importance of trusting God’s timing. As Letsatsi navigates the world of love, she learns that waiting on God’s plan is not only necessary but also deeply rewarding. Lorraine sees her role as an opportunity to share this powerful message with the audience.
“The character of Letsatsi is in pursuit of evolving,” Lorraine explains. “She is on a journey to grow, to discover herself, and to understand that marriage and love are part of God’s greater plan. This role allowed me to educate viewers about the importance of patience, prayer, and trusting in God, especially when it comes to love.”
Lorraine’s portrayal of Letsatsi was particularly meaningful to her because it wasn’t a role she had to struggle to play. “Letsatsi was the most interesting yet easygoing character I’ve portrayed. She felt tailor-made for me,” Lorraine shared. “When a Christian-related story is told, God handpicks people who can represent His will. I felt equipped to bring this character to life and use my talents to make an impact on others.”
In the film, Letsatsi holds a strong belief that she is waiting for the “perfect man” that God has in store for her. Lorraine sees the value in this mindset, having personally experienced the importance of waiting for God’s perfect timing in her own life. “Patience is a fruit of the spirit. It’s not just ideal to wait on God for the perfect love—it’s actually a requirement,” Lorraine said.
In Not My Type, Letsatsi finds herself torn between two potential suitors—Thimothi, a man who seems perfect on paper, and Mhlonishwa, a reformed bad boy with respect and self-discipline. Lorraine points out that while both men have qualities that appeal to Letsatsi, it’s Mhlonishwa’s demeanor and respect that truly stand out to her.
“Letsatsi is a Christian who loves the Lord, so there’s an expectancy for her to look for someone who respects herself and others,” Lorraine explained. “The contrast between Thimothi and Mhlonishwa will be clear for the audience, and it will show why Letsatsi gravitates more towards Mhlonishwa.”
As the Valentine’s Day premiere draws near, Lorraine and her fiancé Tyler ICU are looking forward to watching Not My Type together. “We sure do have plans for Valentine’s Day,” Lorraine said with a smile. “But the main event on our itinerary is definitely catching Not My Type on Showmax.”
Although the movie explores the complexities of love, Lorraine shared that the role of Letsatsi has actually inspired her own wedding plans. “Letsatsi designs wedding dresses in the movie, and that definitely sparked some ideas for my own gown,” Lorraine confessed.
In real life, Lorraine emphasises that love isn’t something you can simply choose—it’s something that’s ultimately decided by God. “In real life, you don’t choose who you love,” Lorraine said. “Proverbs 16:18 reminds us that while we can make plans, God has the final say in our lives and in our relationships.”
For those struggling with waiting for love, Lorraine offers this advice: “Wait on God. Our steps are ordered by Him. Lean not on your own understanding. Seek first the Kingdom of God, and the rest will follow.” She adds that God is the essence of love itself. “Who better to help us find love than love itself?”
Finally, Lorraine believes that the film’s message will resonate deeply with audiences. “I believe viewers will learn that love doesn’t always look perfect, but love rooted in Christ always wins,” she said.
