Liesl Laurie recently marked a major milestone—10 years since she was crowned Miss South Africa in 2015. To celebrate, her husband, Musa Mthombeni, along with her family and friends, threw her a surprise party. Liesl had no idea what was coming—she thought she was attending her best friend’s 34th birthday, only to walk into a celebration in her honour!
Musa took to social media to share his excitement and love for his wife on this special occasion.
“This past weekend, we got the opportunity to surprise @liesllaurie and celebrate my baby’s 10-year Miss South Africa Crowning Anniversary,” he wrote.
He continued with a heartfelt tribute: “The years have flown by, but one thing that remains undeniable is Liesl’s beauty over the ages. A true generational beauty and queen. Watching you become has been one of my life’s true joys, and like a bottle of fine wine, you’re only getting better and deliciously more complex with each day.”
Musa also thanked everyone who helped organise the surprise: “Thank you to the besties for helping organize everything so that the surprise could be a success and thank you to all who took the time to show up for my girl. To the next 10 years and more! Bathathe Miss SA 2015.”
Liesl was overwhelmed with gratitude and joy. She shared her feelings on social media, expressing how shocked and happy she was.
“Surprise!!! I was very much on my way to my bestie’s birthday party, but it turns out all the special people in my life were in on surprising me with a party to celebrate 10 years since being crowned Miss SA!”
She made sure to show appreciation for her husband’s efforts: “A special shout-out to my husband @drmusamthombeni—I appreciate you, husband. Thank you!”
She also couldn’t believe how well everyone kept the secret: “I spent time with almost every person at this celebration in the week leading up to it, and they said nothing. No one let anything slip! Sooo, you guys are all good liars, and that’s scary—but could also come in handy one day!”
Reflecting on the last 10 years, Liesl shared how much she values the support of her loved ones.
“Having a strong network of family and friends who provide support makes a tremendous difference in my life. Today, I am grateful for my support system, my tribe, my people, and, of course, most importantly, my incredible husband. I am forever grateful for all of you and the sense of safety and trust you bring to my life.”
Before the surprise party, Liesl had already commemorated her 10-year milestone with a stunning photoshoot. On March 29, she posted about the day that changed her life forever:
“10 years. On 29 March 2015, Liesl Laurie from Eldorado Park was crowned Miss South Africa. My life changed forever. All my ouma’s sacrifices paid off. All my mom’s prayers were answered. All my hard work finally paid off. God granted me the opportunity of a lifetime—without His grace, I would not have made it to that stage. A blessing. An honor. A true Cinderella ..”
