South African YouTuber and entertainer Lasizwe Dambuza has found himself at the centre of family drama after reports surfaced that he and his older brother, Lungile Mcunu, are allegedly no longer on speaking terms.
The once-close siblings, who were known for their tight bond and shared appearances on Lasizwe’s hit YouTube series Awkward Dates, are said to be in the middle of a heated fallout. The news was first brought to light by Twitter (X) user @qhamadlula_, who alleged that the rift was sparked by a money dispute.

According to the online user, Lungile allegedly demanded a staggering R1 million for his appearance on Awkward Dates, claiming he was owed a share of the revenue generated by the popular episode. The post read:
“Lungile wants to be paid a million plus for his episode of Awkward Date, which made over R2 million plus in revenue. My tomato sauce says Lungile was paid R100k odd rands. Now the brothers don’t get along.”
As the speculation spread, MDN News shared a screenshot of what appeared to be Lasizwe’s response from his Instagram Close Friends, where he addressed the rumours head-on and revealed the true reason behind their strained relationship.
Lasizwe clarified that the feud had nothing to do with money or Awkward Dates, but rather a difference in personal choices and family expectations. In the leaked post, he wrote:
My Close Friends wasn’t meant for headlines. It was a moment between me and the people I trust 😔💔 but ke…
I’m not angry. Just tired. Like this year it was uDominic ngapha… Now it’s these rumours?
I prayed for peace but didn’t know it came with distance.
I’m exhausted. But… https://t.co/kiNK6K30pD

“I JUST SAW THIS AND FIND IT SOOO CRAZY FOR PEOPLE TO MAKE UP SUCH STORIES WITHOUT ANY PROOF OR SOURCES…
YES, MY BROTHER AND I ARE NOT IN SPEAKING TERMS FOR NOW… BECAUSE I NO LONGER WANT TO BE AFFILIATED TO THE FAMILY TAXI BUSINESS AND THAT’S HURTING HIM BAD BECAUSE HE’S SO INVESTED IN CARRYING THE FAMILY LEGACY.
THIS TIME AROUND, IM BEING SELFISH WITH MYSELF AND CHOOSING WHAT WORKS FOR ME AND I AM HAPPY WITH THIS SIDE OF THE WORLD (SOCIAL MEDIA) AND IT WORKS FOR ME. I WISH HE COULD JUST RESPECT THAT.”
Following the circulation of his private post, Lasizwe took to MDN News’ comments to clarify his frustration about the leak, saying:
“My Close Friends wasn’t meant for headlines. It was a moment between me and the people I trust but ke…I’m not angry. Just tired. Like this year it was uDominic ngapha… Now it’s these rumours? I prayed for peace but didn’t know it came with distance. I’m exhausted. But I’m still here. 2025? My babe, Kanti yini?”
Despite the public attention and online chatter, Lasizwe remains focused on his career and personal peace. While fans are hoping the brothers will reconcile soon, the star made it clear that he’s prioritising his happiness — even if it means keeping some distance from family matters.
