Lasizwe Dambuza has taken a brave step toward prioritising his mental health by checking himself into a wellness centre for much-needed rest and reflection. The popular TV personality and comedian shared the news with his followers on social media, expressing how the pressures of his career and personal life had taken a toll on his well-being.
In a heartfelt post, Lasizwe shared a screenshot that read: “It’s that time of the year when my phone battery is extremely low except this time, ITS ME. My mental health is my battery, and I’ve checked myself into a mental wellness facility to recharge so I can show up and perform at my best.”
He went on to explain that while this wasn’t a case of burnout, 2024 had been an intense year. “Awkward Dates blew up in ways I never imagined, but with all those highs, there’s been some heavy sh*t too. I struggle with impostor syndrome, and my personal life took some knocks good and bad. It’s been a lot to carry, and I realized I need help processing everything.”
Lasizwe, who shared that he doesn’t have parents to turn to, emphasised the importance of seeking help when needed. “I’m here with psychologists, therapists, and psychiatrists to work through it all. And let me just say this: asking for help don’t mean you’re weak or broken. It’s actually the strongest thing you can do,” he wrote.
He also encouraged others to listen to their minds and bodies when they need care. “When your body or your mind tells you it needs you, listen. Don’t push that sh*t aside. Talk to someone—a friend, family, or a pro. Recharge yourself because, at the end of the day, nobody’s gonna take care of you the way you can.”
In the caption, Lasizwe revealed that his team would be managing his social media while he focused on his mental wellness, adding, “My team will be taking over my social media accounts after this post as the show has to go on. They confiscate phones here. (Literally, the nurse is standing next to me waiting for me to finish posting so she can take away my phone).”
He also thanked his siblings for their support, saying, “Thank you for dropping me off here and holding my hand during the check-in process!” He ended the post with a message to his fans: “The Sweerie, Bo Makothi I’ll see you guys when I am out and REFRESHED! I love you!”
Lasizwe’s decision has been met with an outpouring of support from fans and celebrities alike. Singer Liyema Pantsi commented, “Your mental health is important. So proud of you for taking this step.” Actor Luthando Mthembu also showed his admiration, commenting, “Proud of you.”
