Multi-award-winning DJ and businesswoman Lady Amar, whose real name is Thando Duma, recently celebrated her 32nd birthday. To mark the special day, she penned a heartfelt message on social media, reflecting on her journey and giving thanks for her blessings.
“I can tell you that God is faithful to the faithful and He’s been so good in my life,” she wrote. “God has blessed me beyond anything I could have possibly asked or thought. If you’re in the place exactly where God wants you to be in, He will continue to bless you to the highest degree. You will never leave hungry and go searching for something else to fill the void. Recently, God has just blessed me so much and I’m amazed to see where God brought me from to the place I am today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY baby girl! 32 Years of grace.”
Her message touched many of her fans who’ve followed her inspiring journey from humble beginnings to a thriving music and business career.
In a 2024 interview with True Love magazine, Lady Amar opened up about how she left her 9-to-5 job in 2015 to chase her dream of being a DJ. She credited DJ Zinhle’s Fuse Academy and her sister, media personality Ntando Duma, as her biggest inspirations for entering the entertainment industry.
Though she originally wanted to become a teacher, Lady Amar’s first steps in music were tough. After completing a 10-week DJ course, she spent four years struggling to find gigs. “Most of the shows I got back then didn’t even pay,” she admitted. Still, she pushed through, working hard to build her name.
Things started to change in 2019 when she began landing more gigs. But her big moment came in 2023 when she released her hit single Hamba Juba featuring Murumba Pitch and Cici. Describing how the collaboration happened, she said it was all in God’s timing: “JL SA and I were in the studio, creating the beat and not knowing who would jump on it. I left the studio and hours later, Cici came and found the beat playing and she asked to jump on it. She started singing on top of the beat and they recorded her, took that video to social media and everyone rooted that we should feature Murumba Pitch. The rest, as they say, is history.”
But Lady Amar is more than just a DJ. She’s also a successful businesswoman. In 2020, during the Covid-19 lockdown, she launched Amar Lips, a lip gloss brand. Within two days, her products were sold out. She has also won the Emerge Africa Award, proving her strength in business.
She is also the founder of Amarnzi, a water company that sells alkaline ionised and sparkling water.
Lady Amar’s 32nd birthday is not just a celebration of age, but a reflection of how far she has come. Her journey is one of faith, persistence, and passion—and it continues to inspire many.
