Afro-pop singer Kelly Khumalo’s tour to the UK has been suspended by promoters, to show solidarity to the victims of xenophobia.
According to The New Age, both Kelly and kwaito singer Brickz’s overseas shows have been cancelled in reaction to the ongoing xenophobic attacks in the country.
Brickz, or Sipho Ndlovu’s show was meant to take place in London on Friday, 17 April, while Kelly was scheduled to kick off on 1 May.
London-based Elite promotions on Thursday said Khumalo’s tour had been cancelled “as a show of solidarity with the victims of xenophobia”.
Kelly said she is saddened by the cancelation of her tour, but more so by the xenophobic attacks.
“I’m sad that my tour has been postponed but I’m more saddened by these xenophobic attacks. As Africans we are all born from the same womb, which is Africa,” the ‘Asine’ singer said.
Promotions coordinator Ezra Sibanda has called upon the SA government to arrest those who are taking part in the brutal killing of the foreign nationals.
On Thursday, SA celebrities including Simphiwe Dana, Nandi Mngoma, Euphonik, DJ Tira, Zakes Bantwini and music legend Penny Penny marched against the xenophobic attacks in Durban.
