Award-winning South African singer, reality TV star and social media influencer Kelly Khumalo has finally addressed ongoing rumours claiming that she is a sangoma. The speculation started after pictures of the singer dressed in a traditional healer outfit went viral on social media, leading many people to believe that she had gone through ukuthwasa and had become a traditional healer.
On Tuesday, Khumalo took to her Instagram account to set the record straight. In a video shared online, the singer spoke calmly and confidently as she directly addressed the claims. She made it clear that she is not a sangoma and has never undergone any form of traditional healer initiation. Her message was firm and clear, aimed at stopping the rumours before they spread any further.
Kelly Khumalo explained that while she is spiritual, this does not automatically mean she is a sangoma. She shared her personal truth in her own words, saying, “I’m not a sangoma I’m just a child of the spirit, I don’t drink it, I can’t even dance this. So much has defeated me….. that’s why the path of the Spirit is individually tailor made.”
Through her statement, Khumalo highlighted that spirituality is personal and different for everyone. She emphasised that people should not jump to conclusions or label others based on appearances or limited understanding of spiritual matters.
The singer’s decision to speak out was praised by many of her followers, who appreciated her honesty and openness. Shortly after the video was posted, social media platforms were flooded with reactions from fans and supporters. Many applauded Khumalo for addressing the issue head-on instead of allowing misinformation to continue circulating.
One Instagram user, londiwe5567, commented, “I like this chat because so few of us understand our own calling and connect with it correctly it’s key to know and understand.” The comment reflected a shared sentiment among many who believe that spiritual journeys are often misunderstood.
Another follower, duduzile_mbot, simply wrote, “thanks for clarifying that one up.” Others echoed similar thoughts, expressing gratitude for the clarity Khumalo provided. tshidi_mohale commented, “The way people are misinformed ka spiritual Thank you for clarifying this.”
Once again, Khumalo showed that she is not afraid to speak her truth, even when public opinion and rumours try to define her narrative.
