South African kwaito musician, songwriter and actor Kabelo Mabalane is stepping back into the music spotlight with a new sound that brings together his life as an artist, pastor, advocate and businessman.

After more than a decade away from full-time music, Mabalane has announced the release of his latest single, “Everybody Needs Somebody,” which drops on Thursday, 3 September 2026, across major digital streaming platforms.

The announcement marks an exciting new chapter for the musician, who is affectionately known as Bouga Luv or Bouga2shoes and is recognised as a founding member of the legendary kwaito trio TKZee. Today, Mabalane is also a pastor at Rhema Church, a role that has deeply influenced the direction of his return to music.

According to the press release, his new musical approach is centred around a genre he calls “Street Psalms.”

The press release read, “After more than a decade devoted to full- time ministry, Active lifestyle advocacy & enablement, business, family, social contribution, South African music icon, now Ps Kabelo Mabalane makes a powerful solo artist return to music with “Everybody Needs Somebody,” the lead single from his forthcoming album, dropping this Thursday, 3 September 2026, across all major digital platforms.

Known affectionately as Bouga Luv or Bouga2shoes, a founding member of the legendary trio TKZee – and today as pastor at Rhema Church – Mabalane steps into a defining new chapter with a genre he calls “Street Psalms.”

A sound construction bringing faith currently not expressed in Street Culture.

Born at the intersection of pulpits, townships, boardrooms and prayer rooms, the A sound that brings the full breadth of his lived experience into one compelling musical language for a new era.”

Rather than presenting his faith and musical identity as separate worlds, Mabalane says the new project allows both sides of his life to work together.

“This album isn’t me choosing between artist and pastor,” says Mabalane. “It’s me living in between them, harnessing both their strengths to impact people’s lives. These are Street Psalms – tight beats, declarations, encouragements, prayers and invitations. South Africa needs soundtracks such as these for this season”

“Everybody Needs Somebody” also reconnects Mabalane with the unmistakable kwaito roots that helped establish his career, while introducing a fresh sonic direction.

The release explains that the song “draws on Mabalane’s unmistakable kwaito roots – however this time adds a genius 1-of-a-kind, unmistakable sonic infusion of THE ARROWS, giving the track it’s ease, joyfulness and perfect tension point.”

The song also moves through contemporary worship, self identity and affirmation, soul and urban influences, creating what the announcement describes as a first taste of a layered and forward-looking project.

The single was recorded between Johannesburg and Los Angeles, USA, and will be available on Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer from Thursday, 3 September 2026.

And for fans eager to hear the bigger picture, the journey does not end with the single. Mabalane’s full album, For King and Country, is set to follow soon after, promising to explore this distinctive intersection of music, faith, culture and lived experience even further.
