Reality TV star Jojo Robinson has given fans an inside look at a recent cosmetic procedure after revealing that she had fat taken from her armpits and transferred into her face.
The Real Housewives of Durban star shared a detailed vlog documenting the procedure, explaining why she decided to undergo fat grafting and why she chose it over traditional fillers. She visited Dr Paul McGarr, who performed the procedure and also treated another skin cancer during the same visit.
In the video, Jojo explained that fillers are not the only option when it comes to restoring lost facial volume.
“So, when it comes to volume lost in your face your only option is not always filler you can also do fat graft,” she said.
Jojo also shared a lengthy explanation alongside the video, giving her followers more insight into her decision.
“Sensitive… VLOG. Come with me while I take the fat out of my arm pits and put it into my face ( technically ) and also remove another Skin Cancer. I decided to go with fat grafting to fix some asymmetry I had going on on one side of my face and obviously went to my fav @drpaulmcgarr, he also sorted out another skin cancer while we were busy.”
According to Jojo, fat transfer can help restore larger areas of lost facial volume caused by ageing and weight loss. She also highlighted the difference between choosing fat grafting and fillers, explaining that her decision came down to the results she wanted.
“Fat transfer is the BEST way to restore large areas of volume to your face that is lost with age and weight loss that is permanent. Even those silly folds by your nose.. it works AMAZING there..”
She continued by explaining why she personally preferred fat grafting for her procedure.
“Why would I choose fat grafting over filler for this. Well technically its completely different. If you just have little areas of volume and you dont mind going once a year then go with filler but if you need major volume and or want permanent results without having to go yearly then go with fat. Its also 100% natural tissue, you use your own body tissue, so there’s zero risk of an allergic reaction or synthetic material migrating over time.”
However, Jojo acknowledged that, like any cosmetic procedure, fat grafting comes with both advantages and disadvantages.
“There’s pros and cons to everything in life..”
She explained that the procedure can be more expensive initially and requires more recovery time. She also noted that not all the transferred fat remains, which means surgeons may need to compensate during the procedure.
“The downside is it does cost more (in the short term, but long term its cheaper ). Theres also more down time and not all the fat that is grafted will stay, so the surgeon usually has to over compensate for that which makes you look a little strange in the beginning.”
Jojo also made it clear that the video was not sponsored and said she shared the experience because she has always been open about the procedures she undergoes.
“PS. This is not sponsored at all. Its just a vlog, with my favourite doctor doing things I do. You know ive always been open about everything i do so you also have more knowledge of it should it be something you wanted to do.”
The reality star ended her post by urging anyone considering a similar procedure to seek out a qualified professional.
“Also. please if this is what you want to do.. GO TO A PROFESISIONAL PLASTIC SURGEON. This is the type of thing that could ruin your face if its done wrong.”
Jojo further warned her followers against choosing a doctor simply because they work with influencers for free, stressing that people should carefully consider who performs their procedures.
“These surgeons that WORK on influencers for free are NOT the people you should go to..”
She also clarified her relationship with Dr McGarr, saying that she pays for her procedures and does not have an influencer relationship with him.
“Dr Mcgarr and I do NOT have an influencer relationship. I pay for what I do, i just go to him and talk about him because he IS THE BEST AND AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND in the field, i also always ask if its okay to vlog .. unfortunately there are some doctors ruining girls lately, be wary and don’t go to just ANYBODY..”
Through the candid vlog, Jojo gave her followers a closer look at her personal experience while using the opportunity to encourage people to make informed decisions and prioritise professional care when considering cosmetic procedures.
