JCPS Confirms Amapiano Star Tebogo G. Mashego Was Not Arrested

The Government’s Justice, Crime, Prevention and Security (JCPS) cluster has confirmed that Amapiano star Tebogo G. Mashego has not been arrested. This comes after a video went viral on social media showing the Biri Marung hitmaker being dragged into a police van, sparking confusion among fans and the public.

According to JCPS, Mashego was behaving strangely and became violent, allegedly assaulting people without a clear reason. Authorities stressed that he was not arrested but removed from the community for his safety and that of others.

“Tebogo G. Mashego has not been arrested. Information received indicates that he displayed an abnormal behaviour and allegedly acted violently, assaulting people without apparent cause. Laudium SAPS members were summoned to the scene and, in the interest of public safety, had to forcefully remove him from the community as he was visibly resisting,” the statement read.

JCPS explained that the singer’s removal was purely a precautionary step to prevent harm, not a criminal arrest.

This incident follows a string of unusual social media outbursts from Mashego. In several Instagram Live sessions, the 23-year-old accused leading Amapiano stars of withholding his royalties. He claimed that Scorpion Kings DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small owed him R23 million for his contribution to Biri Marung. During the live sessions, he also made shocking and unverified claims about the personal lives of fellow artists.

Mashego first began trending after another emotional Instagram Live, where he said he was stranded in Nigeria. According to him, he had travelled for a performance but soon faced challenges.

“I came here with people and when we got here, they started changing. I asked them to buy me a ticket so I could return home. Now they say there’s no way I can go because they signed a contract,” Mashego said.

He pleaded with fans and the music community for help to return home. Fellow musician DJ Karri stepped in and later confirmed that he had secured a flight ticket for Mashego’s safe return to South Africa.

While JCPS has made it clear that he was not arrested, the young star’s recent actions have left fans worried about his wellbeing.
