Hip hop artist J Molley has ignited a firestorm on social media, targeting fellow rapper Emtee with a scathing critique of his professionalism. Over the weekend, J Molley released a video accusing Emtee of being a “lean addict” and blaming his substance use for the collapse of their highly anticipated collaboration.
The drama unfolded after J Molley, whose real name is Jesse Molley, shared his frustrations with Emtee’s behaviour in the studio. According to J Molley, the sessions, which he had paid for and even provided petrol money for Emtee and his crew, were unproductive. Despite spending three separate sessions in the studio together within a week, J Molley claimed Emtee, born Mthembeni Ndevu, “couldn’t even write one bar.”
“I expected a lot more from him, especially given his reputation in the industry,” J Molley vented in the video. “As a stand-up guy, I paid for the studio session; I give them petrol money. But after three sessions, he still couldn’t deliver.”
The tension between the two artists reached a boiling point when J Molley publicly denounced Emtee’s work ethic, attributing the issues to Emtee’s alleged dependence on lean, a concoction made from codeine cough syrup. “He’s too caught up in the lean to focus on the music,” Molley said, expressing his disappointment.
