Fans of Generations: The Legacy are buzzing with excitement after actress Thuli Phongolo teased a possible return to the popular SABC1 soapie. The star recently shared a TikTok video of herself at what appears to be Urban Brew Studios, where the show is filmed.
According to The South African, Phongolo captioned the video, “You’re on set but then you realise your true calling,” sparking speculation that she may be reprising her role as Namhla Diale.
Phongolo originally joined Generations: The Legacy in 2014, portraying Namhla, the daughter of the powerful Jack Mabaso (Vusi Kunene) and the feisty Lucy Diale (Manaka Ranaka). She quickly became a fan-favourite, with viewers following her character’s journey as an IT specialist navigating the dangers of the criminal underworld. However, in 2018, Phongolo announced her departure from the show after four years.
At the time, she shared a heartfelt message on social media, saying:
“After four years of being on Generations: The Legacy… today I take a bow! Thank you for allowing me to live my dream. It’s been challenging and incredibly amazing at the same time.”
Now, six years after her exit, fans are speculating that Namhla may be making a comeback. While the actress has not officially confirmed anything, her video from the studio has left many hopeful.
Since leaving the soapie, Phongolo has built an impressive career in the entertainment industry. She starred in Showmax’s hit telenovela The Wife alongside Mbali Mavimbela and also took on the role of Buhle in season five of Mzansi Magic’s Rockville.
She has also spoken about the challenges she has faced in her acting career, recalling her toughest audition for the role of Mbali in Mzansi Magic’s The Republic.
“I remember talking to Cindy Mahlangu, who was there to audition for the role too, that the audition script was so hard. I didn’t want to embarrass myself,” she told Sowetan in 2021.
Phongolo has also gained popularity as a DJ and media personality, proving her versatility in the entertainment world.
If she is indeed returning to Generations: The Legacy, it would be a major moment for longtime viewers of the show. For now, fans will have to wait and see if Namhla Diale will once again grace their screens.
