The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has confirmed a devastating accident on Saturday night involving rapper Shebeshxt, whose real name is Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke. The crash, which occurred along the R37 near the Smelters Mine outside Polokwane, tragically claimed the life of his young daughter.
Tidimalo Chuene, spokesperson for the department, reported that the accident happened at 22:00 when Shebeshxt’s charcoal Volkswagen Polo collided with a heavy motor vehicle. Shebeshxt, known for his hit “Ambulance,” was on his way to perform at an African National Congress Siyanqoba Rally celebration concert in Lebowakgomo.
“A Volkswagen Polo is reported to have overturned after colliding with a heavy motor vehicle, killing the young girl and seriously injuring the driver and another passenger,” Chuene told IOL News. The nine-year-old girl, identified as Onthatile (Gladys Chuene), was a Grade 3 student at Northern Academy. The academy released a statement expressing their condolences and support for her family during this difficult time.
Chuene stated that the cause of the accident is under investigation, and all necessary police procedures will be completed before more details are disclosed. “As the department, we are saddened by the incident and send our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, and wish for those who sustained injuries a speedy recovery,” she added.
Shebeshxt’s family also issued a statement, mourning the loss of Onthatile and confirming that the rapper is currently hospitalised and receiving medical care. “The accident unfortunately claimed the life of his beloved daughter, Onthatile, which has caused utter grief and shock as she was the angel that warmed up all our hearts,” the statement read.
