Innocent Masuku, famously known as Bobo from “Yizo Yizo” and “Zone 14,” has been facing tough times in his acting career, affecting his mental health and family life. In an emotional interview with ZiMoja, Masuku revealed the deep impact of being unable to secure acting roles.
“I want to be honest and say that being unemployed has hit me hard, and my family as well. It has affected my mental health too; I’ve dealt with depression because of this,” Masuku shared. The actor emphasised his desire not only to return to acting but also to provide for his family. “More than just wanting to get back into acting, I just want to be able to provide for myself and my family.”
The journey has been lonely and challenging for Masuku, who admitted he has had little support. He acknowledged that his past drug addiction played a significant role in derailing his career. “Let’s also be honest about my use of drugs. I’d say that is probably one of the things that has held my career back, but I sought help, and I’m now able to function. I fought the addiction by going to rehab; otherwise, it would have killed me,” he said. Now clean and ready to work, Masuku has registered with an agent to show his dedication to reviving his career.
Despite his efforts, finding auditions has been difficult. “In my industry, we attend auditions to get work, but I haven’t been lucky even with the ones I have attended. They are simply hard to come by, and maybe I’m not what they are looking for anymore. I understand that the industry has changed, but I haven’t lost my acting gift. I can still act,” Masuku asserted.
Masuku remains hopeful that someone will give him the chance to return to what he loves and provide for his family once again.
