Inno Morolong is set to feature in the new Showmax Original docu-series Slay Queens, offering a firsthand perspective on the lives of women chasing the “soft life” in South Africa’s urban nightlife.

The five-part documentary premieres on 31 October 2025, with new episodes dropping every Friday. Produced by Vusi Zion and his creative collective Kaimal Pictures—the team behind the Showmax hit Soft Life—Slay Queens promises an unflinching look at the controversial lifestyle, blending stories from slay queens, ballers, and industry insiders.

“Slay Queens was born from a need to hold up a mirror to a world we often speak about in whispers, memes, or judgment, but rarely listen to directly,” said Zion. “I was inspired by the courage of women who live these realities every day, by the men and communities affected, and by the silence surrounding their truths. My role as a filmmaker is not to sanitise or sensationalise but to create a platform where voices that are usually dismissed or caricatured can be heard in their full complexity.”

Inno Morolong, a BTech Communications Science graduate from the Central University of Technology, brings her experience as a club hostess and outspoken influencer to the documentary. Though not a slay queen herself, Morolong provides insight into the nightclub industry and the dynamics that shape the lives of the women in it. She has received multiple awards as a club hostess and influencer, as well as a recent GBV Survivor Award for her advocacy work.

“I shared my views as a club host and what I see at the clubs daily,” Morolong said. “I am well-travelled and experienced in the topic. But I do not live the life of a slay queen. It is a tough industry. In the docu-series, I detail how far the girls go to secure the bag and how they hunt for men.”

Alongside Morolong, the series features other notable voices:

  • DJ and influencer Cyan Boujee, who opens up about the pressures of staying relevant in the spotlight.
  • Amapiano star Mr JazziQ, who shares a front-row perspective on the nightlife scene as owner of Johannesburg’s Vibes on Main.
  • Author and media personality Jackie Phamotse, reflecting on her journey as a former slay queen.
  • Anthropologist Lebo Masango, offering an academic analysis of the socio-economic dynamics driving the slay queen phenomenon.

“Slay Queens doesn’t just document a lifestyle,” Zion added. “It challenges the systems, stories, and stereotypes behind it. It shines a light on those who live, critique, and capitalise on the slay queen era.”

With her unique perspective, Inno Morolong helps anchor the series in authenticity, offering viewers a candid and informed look at a lifestyle that continues to shape South Africa’s nightlife and cultural conversation.
