Former Idols SA winner Yanga Sobetwa is speaking openly and honestly about the ups and downs of young marriage. Now 24 years old, the singer recently tied the knot with fellow musician Ntsako Khoza, and she’s using her platform to share what she’s learned so far about love, faith, and commitment.
Speaking on the Engineer Your Life podcast, Yanga reflected on how marriage has challenged her, especially at a young age. “It’s not a problem, but it is certainly a challenge,” she admitted. “Marriage is about dying to self. Dying to self, as a lady or human being, is already difficult, so dying to serve someone else is more difficult. Marriage is a huge challenge, but God has blessed us with a community.”
The Cape Town-born singer, who won Season 14 of Idols SA in 2018, shared that her relationship with Ntsako began after she had experienced heartbreak in a previous relationship. “I think he played a big role in the healing process,” she said. “God is intentional.”
From the start of their relationship, Yanga said she made her intentions clear. “I said, my brother, you have two years to get yourself in order. I wanted to manage expectations from both sides,” she explained.
Deeply rooted in her Christian faith, Yanga also spoke candidly about abstinence and dating with purpose. “Abstaining is not easy. You have to do it for yourself,” she said. “I don’t see how people can date for a long time and still do it in a Godly way. If you do it that way, there has to be a set time and expectations to where you are going.”
She further explained what “Godly dating” means to her: “I’m not an expert and I’m only married once. I can’t tell you what Godly marriage is, but it is more like courtship than dating. We did it God’s way, though there were failures along the way.”
Yanga’s journey into marriage has been fast but filled with intention. She celebrated her 24th birthday on April 24, 2025, and just two days later, she and Ntsako said “I do” in a small, intimate wedding surrounded by loved ones. She had only announced her engagement days earlier, on April 20, with a heartfelt Instagram post showcasing her diamond ring and the caption: “God can. God did.”
