Mzansi Magic has decided to bring it’s biggest soapie, Zabalaza to an end after it’s had extremely low ratings for quite some time now compared to other local sopie’s.
Sunday Sun reports that the actors and crew members of the soapie were quite shocked when they received the news about the soapie being canned.
Sources revealed to the paper that the show’s viewership decreased drastically, going from 700,000 t0 200,000 and the channel says that they can no longer fund the soapie.
“There were issues in terms of the direction the show was taking. The problem with the show is that executive producers were told to shape up or ship out. Executive producers decided to change the script but still failed dismally. They started writing on their own, but they ran out of ideas and couldn’t attract viewers.”
Another source adds that the producers of the show announced to the actors and crew that the show was going to be discontinued without giving them any explanations. “Producers told actors they should come up with their own storyline on how they want to exit the show because they didn’t have any ideas…”
Mzansi Magic released a statement and revealed that the show will come to an end in April 2016. Well we guess they should be proud that they managed to keep the show going for almost 3 years now.
