sbu and chiefs players

So last week the above image was making it’s rounds on social media and apparently DJ Sbu was claiming that the Kaizer Chiefs players use Mo Faya to get energised before getting on the field.

As seen in the image the DJ allegedly talked Chiefs defenders Morgan Gould, Tsepo Masilela and Siboniso Gaxa into posing in a picture with him wearing Mo Faya T-shirts with the product in hand.

Sunday World reports that Jessica Motaung, Kaizer Chiefs marketing director was not very pleased with the trio and called an immediate disciplinary hearing for them.

The trio was reprimanded and intern given a fine of an undisclosed amount as the ambush marketing apparently angered some of the club’s sponsors.

Kaizer Chiefs PR manager Vina Maphosa refused to give the paper any details regarding the matter but told them that as soon as they are ready to go public on the matter, they will.

However two independent sources that were contacted by the paper confirmed that the trio was fined by the club and went on to tell the paper that legal action will be taken up against the DJ.

“Our marketing manager told us during the workshop on Monday that they had reprimanded and fined the players who promoted DJ Sbu’s energy drink without the club’s permission,” said the source.

“She also told us the club had taken legal action against him and that our lawyers had met with his lawyers. His blunder was that he apparently tweeted the club was supporting the drink and the players were using it. But why use the club’s name? I don’t know how much these players were fined, but it’s a lot.”

Another source was quoted.

“Usually, Chiefs hold a workshop with the players at least twice a year in which they talk about a lot of things to do with the club’s brand. Among the things they teach the players are issues of ambush marketing in which individuals and companies would take advantage of the players and use them and the Chiefs brand for their own purposes without going through the right procedures.”

According to the source the same workshop was held on Monday and the picture of DJ Sbu and the trio was used as an example to warn the players once again of ambush marketing.

All we have to say is…mara Sbu?
