Rapper HHP, real name Jabulani Tsambo, according to social media comments failed to light up the South African Music Awards (Samas) event as a host. HHP came under fire as Twitter critics voiced their disappointment with how he hosted the biggest music award event in the country.

Among the criticisms were comments such as: “Samas surprisingly boring. Was expecting so much from hhp. Sorry, buddy u didn’t crack this one.”

And: “Dear Eskom, HHP, and SAMAs are wasting energy, PLEASE loaded them and save us. Loads of energy.”

The rapper, however, decided to look at the positive things that came out of his Samas experience and shared them in a lengthy message on Facebook.

“I’d like to take this time to share my acceptance speech. Let me sum up SAMA XXI in a quote i absolutely love from Charlie Chaplin. He says “To truly laugh, you must be able to take your pain, and play with it!” Taking risks, going against the grain or walking into the unknown wilderness is a daunting and scary mission. Yet, doing it and coming out on the other side is a lesson in itself.

“As ratchet as last night went, I take away these key things I learned about MYSELF. I need to try my hand in musical theater. I need to take public speaking lessons – I’ve always been afraid to speak (not rap) in public and last night’s delivery about xenophobia made me realize, public speaking comes from the heart. The last thing I learned about myself is I need to grow a thicker skin and try my luck to stand up… I actually fux with it. Maybe after some serious boos and hackling, I’ll go pro [sic].”

Of course, having a fear of public speaking is nothing to be embarrassed out. A huge number of people, worldwide, suffer from the phobia. It’s obviously less common for a celebrity to be open about a fear of public speaking, especially when they’re in the public eye often. Of course, there are multiple public speaking classes that this rapper could attend if he wanted to, such as the ones offered by Development Academy for example. After attending one of those, he should be able to confidently deliver his speech.

“I loved this whole experience. You’ll probably never see me host again, but if I get another call from BETafrica, I look forward to it even the more,” concluded HHP.
