GS Funeral Parlour will no longer handle the funeral services for late kwaito star Mapaputsi, who passed away on September 5 after battling illness for over a year. The funeral home, which had been initially appointed by the Ngwenya family, expressed respect for the family’s decision and announced their withdrawal on Wednesday.
In a statement, the funeral parlour explained, “GS Funeral Parlour announces it will no longer facilitate the funeral service of kwaito legend Mapaputsi after the family’s decision to appoint us as their service provider. We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition after the preparations we made and we will co-ordinate with the affiliated service provider to maintain the dignity of the deceased and the grieving family.”
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Mapaputsi’s daughter, Precious, revealed that the family had recently discovered that her father had a funeral policy, which led to the sudden change in arrangements. “He had funeral cover. We found out about it late. We thought he didn’t have funeral cover. We wanted to do it as a family but all is well and we managed to sort out things quickly,” she explained.
Precious added that going with her father’s policy was ultimately the best choice. “When we discovered he had funeral cover we thought to go with it because that’s how he planned things, that’s what’s best for him. All is well.”
