GQ South Africa marked its 25th anniversary in style with the second Music Issue Celebration, proudly presented by Hunters. This milestone event, coinciding with Africa Day on May 25th, showcased the creativity and innovation of African music, reflecting GQ’s commitment to engaging and inspiring its readers.
“As GQ celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, we are proud to showcase the creativity and innovation that make African music so influential and inspiring. This milestone also highlights GQ’s unwavering dedication to delivering outstanding publications that captivate and engage our readers,” said Editor-in-Chief Molife Kumona, speaking to GQ.
Reported by GQ, Lynsay Sampson, Hunter’s Marketing Manager, emphasised the brand’s support for African music, saying, “At Hunter’s, we believe in the power of music to inspire, unite, and refresh. By partnering with GQ Magazine, we aim to showcase our unwavering support for artists who embody the spirit of Abafostayo – those who relentlessly chase their dreams.” Sampson added, “We are proud to collaborate with GQ Magazine to bring this one-of-a-kind event to Johannesburg.”
The evening was hosted by the talented Sipho “Alphi” Mkhwanazi and continued last year’s theme of “African Royalty.” The event attracted South Africa’s biggest stars, including Big Brother Titans Winner Khosi Twala, Mommy Club’s TV star Happy Simelane, and artist Tino Chinyani.
The lineup for the GQ Music Issue Celebration featured an impressive array of talent. Multi-award-winning South African trumpeter, composer, music arranger, and producer Mandisi Dyantyis led the performances. Rising star Zee Nxumalo, who recently turned 21, brought her vibrant energy to the stage. Amapiano singer-songwriter Babili Amos Shili, popularly known as Aymos, also captivated the audience with his soulful tunes.
The celebration was a resounding success, highlighting the rich cultural tapestry of African music and GQ South Africa’s legacy of excellence over the past 25 years.
