Gordo and Drake have just released the highly anticipated music video for their duet “Healing,” one of two collaborations featured on Gordo’s new album Diamante. The video takes a heartfelt approach, focusing on the inspirational story of South African TikToker The Don Madfunz, real name Emmanuel Nhlakanipho Madonsela who was gifted a car by Gordo.

Although neither Gordo nor Drake appear in the video, Gordo shared in the YouTube caption that he wanted the spotlight to be on The Don Madfunz. He discovered The Don while scrolling through TikTok, captivated by his taste in music, infectious smile, and incredible story. “His taste in music grabbed my attention, but it was his dancing, smile, and story that really hooked me,” wrote Gordo.

The Don’s daily life in Dududu, South Africa, is marked by a remarkable journey—walking nine miles to work every day, regardless of weather or personal safety, all to provide for his family. “He risked it all for his family and dreamed one day of his very slow walk being over and finally being able to own a car for himself,” Gordo explained.

Gordo couldn’t shake The Don’s story from his mind when conceptualizing the “Healing” video. He enlisted director Theo Skudra to capture a day in The Don’s life. The resulting video provides an intimate glimpse into The Don’s routine and concludes with a heartwarming surprise: Gordo presenting The Don and his family with a brand-new car.

“With this video, I wanted to show that Don’s positive attitude and joyful spirit are something we can all learn from, no matter what we’re going through,” Gordo wrote. “His story is a reminder that even when life gets tough, you can still find reasons to smile. I hope this video touches your hearts like it did mine.”

The video has sparked a wave of pride and joy among South Africans, making The Don a trending topic on social media. One user expressed their excitement on X, saying, “From doing TikToks at Makro SA to making it into a Drake and Gordo music video.” Another commented, “What’s your story with South Africa? I was so shocked after seeing the video, thank you for acknowledging us.” Gordo responded, “Afro house was created in South Africa… if I’m gonna dive into that world.. the least I could do is acknowledge such an amazing culture and give back.”

Gordo and Drake’s “Healing” video not only showcases their musical collaboration but also highlights the power of human connection and the impact of giving back. The Don Madfunz’s story is a testament to resilience and the joy that can be found even in the toughest circumstances, making this video a truly inspiring piece.
