Just a week after announcing that she has left her calling as a sangoma, Gogo Skhotheni – whose real name is Tumi Motsoeneng – is now embracing a new spiritual path: Christianity.

The reality TV star and entrepreneur recently went viral after videos of her preaching in church started circulating on social media. In the videos, she is seen wearing a white, form-fitting dress while passionately leading a congregation in worship. She can be heard praying, saying: “Lord, we are asking for forgiveness for our sins. We are praying for our households. Send down your angels.”

The dramatic shift in her spiritual journey has caught the attention of many South Africans, especially her followers who knew her as a traditional healer. In fact, Gogo Skhotheni has shared that she plans to continue this new path by hosting an online prayer session on May 17, which has already been promoted on her social platforms.

In a conversation with TshisaLIVE, she confirmed her intentions and made it clear that she is serious about her new walk with God. “This is real,” she said, addressing the backlash she’s received. Despite some of her followers being critical of her decision, she remains firm in her belief and journey.

Although she has turned her back on ubungoma, Gogo Skhotheni made it known that she will keep using her well-known stage name. “I’m not willing to change my stage name because I’ve worked hard for the Skhotheni brand, not only as a sangoma but as an entrepreneur and DJ, so I am not going to change it any time soon. I won’t listen to anyone rushing me to do it.”

Her announcement that she is no longer practicing as a sangoma didn’t sit well with some of her initiates, many of whom she mentored. Some of them publicly criticized her, but she says she is unbothered and more focused than ever on her mental health.

“They need help more than I do. I am 10 times ahead with my mental health so it doesn’t break me. It hurts because these are people I’ve taken as my own children, so seeing such hurts me, but that does not stop me being myself. We move on.”
