In a deeply sorrowful turn of events, DJ and sangoma Tumi Motsoeneng, widely known as Gogo Skhotheni, and her estranged husband Monde Shange are grieving the tragic loss of their three-year-old son, Monde Jr. According to ZiMoja, the young boy passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024, at 15:00 at Busamed Modderfontein Private Hospital.
Gogo Skhotheni shared the devastating news in a heartfelt statement to ZiMoja, confirming the passing of her beloved son. “It is with profound sadness that the Motsoeneng and Shange families confirm the passing of Monde Jr Shange. Monde Jr departed this life at 15:00 on Monday, September 2nd, 2024, at Busamed Modderfontein Private Hospital,” she said. She further expressed the family’s need for privacy during this incredibly painful time. “The families kindly request privacy as they navigate this deep and painful loss. We ask for your understanding and compassion in giving them the space they need during this difficult time of grieving.”
The loss of Monde Jr is especially heartbreaking given the health challenges he faced throughout his short life. Gogo Skhotheni has previously opened up about her son’s struggles, sharing a poignant message on his second birthday that highlighted the many battles he endured. “Monde Jr, you’ve been at that hospital bed ever since. You know all the nurses, doctors, and cleaners; we are now planning your second birthday. Are you still there?” she wrote.
Monde Jr’s journey began with complications even before he was born. Gogo Skhotheni revealed that her pregnancy was fraught with difficulties, leading to his premature birth at just seven months. Shortly after his birth, Monde Jr was rushed to the ICU due to breathing issues and faced numerous medical challenges, including being born without the tube that transports food to the stomach. Over the years, he underwent multiple surgeries and relied on a machine for nourishment. Despite the hardships, Gogo Skhotheni’s love for her son remained unwavering. “God is testing the wrong woman,” she once said, expressing her frustration and pain. “God made a joke game, AmaDlozi kept quiet, they saw me in pain daily but they all did nothing. My faith is not shaken even by a snake, they know I would cross the ocean for them.”
The past few years have been incredibly difficult for Gogo Skhotheni and her family. Monde Jr spent nearly two years in the intensive care unit, and during this time, the family’s resilience was tested. The challenges also extended to her relationship with Monde Shange, which has been turbulent, with periods of separation following allegations of abuse. Despite everything, Gogo Skhotheni remains steadfast in her faith. “A lot has happened. My son has been sick for a long time, but I have given my life to God and will still heal,” she said.
As the Motsoeneng and Shange families mourn the loss of Monde Jr, they ask for privacy and support from the public during this time of profound grief.
