Former Real Housewives of Johannesburg stars Brinnette Seopela and Gugu Khathi are livid after Multichoice aired footage of their fight with fellow housewife Christall Kay. According to ZiMoja the clip which surfaced during The Real Housewives: The Ultimate Girls’ Trip South Africa, captured the heated altercation while the housewives were in Jamaica.
In April, the video was leaked to ZiMoja by a former employee at Ayepyep Lifestyle Club, where the scene was filmed. The footage shows Christall Kay having a screaming match with Khathi, who uses the F-word, before pushing Khathi onto a couch. Two other women intervene to prevent further escalation. In another clip, Christall Kay is restrained by two bouncers as a woman kicks her while she sits on the couch. The confrontation continues for several minutes, ending with Kay crying on the floor.
Sources reveal that Khathi and Seopela have lodged a formal complaint with Multichoice, claiming they were portrayed as hooligans. The two were reportedly shocked to see the fight on TV after being assured it would never be aired. “Imagine getting calls from business associates about your behavior on TV. You would also be disappointed,” said a source. Another source mentioned that the women were not asked for their consent before the footage was aired, leaving them blindsided.
The airing of the clip has had serious repercussions, with Seopela losing a gig due to her aggressive behavior not aligning with her client’s brand. “Reputation is everything in this industry,” the insider noted.
Upon inquiring about the airing, the women were told that a former producer leaked the footage. “It seems like no one wants to take responsibility. They are blaming the former producer as if she was working on this leg of the show,” another source added. Khathi and Seopela have since involved their legal teams and are considering legal action over the leaked footage. “They will do anything to protect their reputation,” the source emphasised.
Both ladies declined to comment, citing the legal nature of the issue. “We will comment in due time about this matter. The timing is not right at the moment,” they said. Multichoice’s CEO for General Entertainment, Nomsa Philiso, stated she would look into the matter but had not provided a formal comment at the time of publication.
